This is a paid piece from Silverstar Car Wash.
Simplified: Silverstar Car Wash donated $10,000 to this year's Hy-Vee Sanford Legends scholarship program, which supports students β and specifically student athletes β who've made a difference in their school and community.
Why it matters
- The scholarship helps students who have made a positive impact and been a leader in enriching the lives of others, especially through athletics.
- Recipients don't necessarily have to be athletes. Winners could also include team managers or people who maybe only participated in sports for part of their high school career.
"Itβs not designed to give to the best athlete out there in our area," Legends co-founder Tim Stupka said. "It's designed to give to a student athlete that has done something special for their school, their community or the players that play around them and still be a good student."
What's the history?
The Hy-Vee Sanford Legends partnership has promoted the physical well-being of youth for more than 20 years.
The group has brought free sports clinics to the Sioux Falls area, as well as provided grants for local teams, facilities and more. Β
In 2016, the Legends for Kids Scholarship began giving $5,000 scholarships to directly help incoming college freshmen from South Dakota and the regions where Hy-Vee and Sanford serve. Since then, more than three dozen scholarships have been awarded.
Silverstar Car Wash has been a longtime donor of the Legends program, but this year's donation marks the first time they're giving specifically to the scholarship.
What are people saying?
"This scholarship goes to the most outstanding graduating seniors from communities all over South Dakota," said Bryan Slama of Silverstar. "These are communities that Silverstar serves, and we are glad to give back with this scholarship."
"We can't thank them enough," said Legends co-founder Brad Coleman. "Without their generosity and commitment to the event and the kids, it'd be hard for us to do what we do."
