Stuff to do: Sept. 30 to Oct. 7

It's spooky season. From Frankenstein to spooky songs to mystical art, there are lots of ways to channel some big October energy in the week ahead. Here's a look at a roundup of some local events.

  • Say, 'It's aliiiiiiive!' The Premiere Playhouse's first show of its 20th season opened this week. See Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein" between now and Oct. 9. Showtimes and tickets available here.*
  • Let's get political, political. Catch the one-and-only gubernatorial debate between Gov. Kristi Noem and Rep. Jamie Smith. Libertarian candidate Tracey Quint will also be on the debate stage. It's over a month until Election Day, but this is your only chance to hear one-on-one the three people vying to lead the state for the next four years. Details on the Dakota News Now website.
  • Get mystical. The Ipso Gallery at Fresh Produce is debuting its October gallery this weekend, "Mystic October." See 12 pieces from artist Cody Henrichs. Details here.
  • Reminisce about the good ol' divorce days. Sioux Falls used to be a destination for couples wanting a divorce. April White, the author of a new book exploring this time in history, will be speaking at the Old Courthouse Museum on Tuesday discussing her book, "The Divorce Colony." Details here.
  • See some spooky singing. The Good Night Theatre Collective is getting in the spirit of the season with some spooky tunes in "A Haunted Cabaret" Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7. Details and tickets here.
  • Read rebelliously. Read a banned book and live to tell the tale. Reach Literacy is hosting a banned book discussion each month, and the October discussion is on the book "As I Lay Dying." Join the discussion starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Remedy. More here.
