Simplified: A Sioux Falls-based nonprofit is bringing women from across the country together next month to support women who've experienced miscarriage. Here's what you need to know about Evermore Blooms' Brunch & Blooms event.
Why it matters
- Evermore Blooms was founded in 2020 with a small grant and a plan to send as many anonymous bouquets of flowers to miscarriage local moms as they could. Today, the organization has expanded nationwide, sending almost 900 bouquets to women in 49 different states and are on track to exceed 1,000 this year.
- Brunch & Blooms started in 2021 as a small group of women getting together and is now the primary fundraiser to support the organization. This year's event will take place March 22 at the Atrium at Blue Haven.
- Founder Chelsey Schnell described the event as a chance to gather alongside women in a safe space where they can feel spoiled, enjoy a ladies’ day of good food and shopping, all while remembering and celebrating babies in heaven.
"It honestly feels holy," she said. "There's just such a great environment and atmosphere."

Schnell first got the idea to start Evermore when, in 2017 on the two-year anniversary of the loss of her daughter, Ava, to miscarriage, flowers showed up on her doorstep.
"Someone saw me hurting and took a small, but very impactful, action," Schnell said.
About a year after starting the organization, a social media post got significant attention, and bouquet requests flooded in from across the nation.

Schnell knows firsthand the isolation women feel after miscarriage. The cultural conversation has improved over the years, she noted, but there's often still a "cloud of shame."
"Society just really tries to shove this under the rug, saying, 'it's early, it's common,'" Schnell said. "It may be common, but that doesn't mean it's easy. We're giving women full permission to feel feelings they may have been told aren’t necessary or valid.”
